How to convert a 1099
-
Upload the form
PDF, scan, or photo, any of the six common variants: NEC, MISC, INT, DIV, K, or B. A single drop takes up to 20 forms, and each becomes its own document with its own export.
-
We read the parties and every box
Tax year, variant, payer, and recipient come from the form header. Every box that reports an amount lands as its own row with its printed box number and label. Only the last four digits of the recipient TIN are ever extracted.
-
Download the CSVs
A summary CSV with one row per form, for a season's intake at a glance, plus a box amounts CSV with one row per reported box. Both open directly in Excel or Google Sheets.

Two TINs, two rules
The payer TIN is a business identifier and is kept in full. The recipient TIN is personal, so the extraction schema requests only its last four digits: a full SSN or ITIN never enters LedgerBox, by schema shape rather than by scrubbing.
The variant comes from the title
NEC, MISC, INT, DIV, K, or B is read from the printed form title and recorded in its own field, so a mixed stack of a client's forms sorts itself in the summary export.
Every box becomes a row
Each box that reports an amount lands as one row with its printed number and caption. Box 1 on a NEC and box 1a on a DIV stay distinct, so no variant needs its own template.
A season's forms in one drop
A drop takes up to 20 files, and each 1099 becomes its own document with its own summary row, so a client's intake folder converts in one pass. Forms whose year, variant, payer, or recipient cannot be read come back flagged for review instead of guessed.
1099 conversion FAQ
How do I convert a 1099 PDF to Excel or CSV?
Create a free LedgerBox account, upload the form, and download the CSVs. The free trial includes enough pages to try a stack of forms, and no credit card is required.
Which 1099 variants are supported?
The six common ones: 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, and 1099-B. The variant is read from the printed form title and recorded in its own field, so all six go through the same uploader without picking a subtype first.
Which fields are extracted from a 1099?
Nine header fields: tax year, variant, payer name, payer TIN, recipient name, recipient TIN last four, federal tax withheld, state, and state tax withheld. Plus one row per reported box with its printed number, caption, and amount.
Does it work with scanned or photographed forms?
Yes. OCR-backed extraction reads image-based PDFs, scans, and photos the same way as digital files, and any box it cannot read with confidence comes back flagged.
Is a recipient's full SSN or TIN ever stored?
No. The extraction schema requests only the last four digits of the recipient TIN, so a full SSN, ITIN, or EIN never enters extracted data, exports, or review screens. The payer TIN is a business identifier and is kept in full.
Is my 1099 data secure?
Documents are encrypted in transit and at rest, processed in isolated storage, and never used to train models. You can delete uploaded documents at any time and they are permanently removed.
