Excel exports, and the workbook they write

The Excel export is not a CSV with a different extension. It is a worksheet with real date cells, real number cells, and a header row that stays put while you scroll, which is the difference between data you can pivot and data you have to clean first.

Excel workbook · columns

5 columns

Date
A real date cell formatted yyyy-mm-dd, not text that looks like a date.
Description
The description as printed, collapsed onto one line.
Debit
Money out, as a number, empty on a row that is money in.
Credit
Money in, as a number, empty on a row that is money out.
Balance
The balance after the row, empty when the statement prints none.

The same five columns as the CSV, as a formatted worksheet.

Approve a document, choose the Excel workbook, and download. It opens in Excel, Numbers, and Google Sheets without an import step.

How to get the file

  1. Upload the statement

Digital PDFs, scans, and phone photos all convert the same way, and a single drop takes up to 20 files.

  2. Review and approve it

Debits, credits, and running balances have to add up before a document is marked clean. Anything uncertain is flagged with a reason rather than exported quietly.

  3. Download the workbook

One worksheet named Transactions, one row per transaction. Selecting several statements first puts them all in one workbook.

Worth knowing before you import

The quirks of a file are the part nobody writes down, and the part that costs an afternoon when it turns out to matter.

Dates and amounts are cells, not strings

The date column holds real dates formatted yyyy-mm-dd, and the debit, credit, and balance columns hold numbers formatted to two decimals. Sorting by date sorts by date, and summing a column works without a find and replace first.

The header row is frozen and bold

Row one stays visible while you scroll, which matters on a statement with 300 transactions. Column widths are set so descriptions are readable without dragging anything.

A merged workbook names its source

Export several statements together and the worksheet gains a leading source document column carrying each document's title. Everything else about the sheet is unchanged, so a reader who has both files recognizes the second one.

Excel export FAQ

What columns are in the Excel export?

Date, description, debit, credit, and balance, one row per transaction, on a worksheet named Transactions. Money out fills the debit column and money in fills the credit column, so a row only ever fills one of the two.

Is it a real xlsx file or a renamed CSV?

A real xlsx workbook. Dates are date cells, amounts are number cells formatted to two decimals, the header row is bold and frozen, and column widths are set. Excel opens it without the import wizard appearing.

Can I put several statements in one workbook?

Yes. Select the documents and export once. The worksheet gains a leading source document column naming which statement each row came from, and the other five columns are exactly as they are in a single-document workbook.
