What a QIF file is
QIF is a flat list: a section header naming the account type, then one block of single-letter fields per transaction, each ending in a caret. It is the oldest of these formats and the most widely read.
The header is written as a bank account. If the CSV is a credit card statement, the amounts still convert correctly, but check the account type in your accounting package after the import: a card's signs mean the opposite of a current account's.
What the conversion keeps
A QIF file has a place for some of what a CSV file holds and not for the rest. Both lists come from the two formats, so neither can claim something the file cannot say.

What goes into the payee and the memo?
The description goes into the payee field, capped at 40 characters because some readers truncate it silently. A description longer than that is repeated in full in the memo.
Can I convert a PDF bank statement here?
No. This tool reads data files, not documents. LedgerBox reads PDF and photographed statements and writes the same output formats.
Do I need an account?
