What a QBO file is

OFX is the open format that Quicken, Sage, MoneyDance, and GnuCash read. QBO is the same document written for QuickBooks Web Connect. The transactions, the account block, and the closing balance all move across unchanged.

Both the OFX 1.x SGML encoding, where leaf tags are left unclosed, and the OFX 2.x XML encoding are read.

What the conversion keeps

A QBO file has a place for some of what a OFX file holds and not for the rest. Both lists come from the two formats, so neither can claim something the file cannot say.
