What a CSV file is
The download is a CSV, which Excel opens directly and treats as a worksheet. A CSV rather than an XLSX because the two hold the same transactions, and a CSV is a file every spreadsheet, database, and script reads without a library.
Dates are written YYYY-MM-DD, which Excel reads as a real date in every locale. Amounts keep their sign, so money out stays negative rather than becoming a second column.
What the conversion keeps
A CSV file has a place for some of what a QBO file holds and not for the rest. Both lists come from the two formats, so neither can claim something the file cannot say.
