Convert QBO to IIF

Web Connect posts to a bank feed and IIF posts journal entries. Choose your QBO file and download the same transactions as an IIF.

Free, with no account. LedgerBox pays for it because the people who need it often have a PDF statement too, and reading those is what LedgerBox sells.

QBO to IIF

Step 1 of 3

The file is read and rewritten in your browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored.

How the conversion works

  1. Choose your QBO file

The converter reads the transactions and whether the statement is a bank account or a credit card.

  2. Check the first rows

The signs matter more here than anywhere else, because an IIF posts without a review step.

  3. Download the IIF

Back up your company file, then import through File, Utilities, Import, IIF Files.

What a IIF file is

The two formats go into QuickBooks by different doors. A QBO arrives in the bank feed for review; an IIF is written straight into the register as journal entries, with no review step.

Each transaction becomes a TRNS row and an SPL row that cancel out, posted against Uncategorized Expense or Uncategorized Income. Back up the company file before importing: QuickBooks does not undo an IIF import.

What the conversion keeps

A IIF file has a place for some of what a QBO file holds and not for the rest. Both lists come from the two formats, so neither can claim something the file cannot say.

Carried across

  • The transaction date
  • The amount, with its sign
  • The description or payee
  • The check number
  • Whether the account is a bank or a credit card

Dropped, because IIF has no place for it

  • The currency
  • The account number ending
  • The bank name
  • The statement period
  • The closing balance

QBO to IIF questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and rewritten in your browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. You can turn off your network connection and the converter still works.

Should I import the QBO instead?

Import the QBO if you want the transactions in the bank feed to review and categorise. Use the IIF when you want them written into the register directly.

Can I convert a PDF bank statement here?

No. This tool reads data files, not documents. LedgerBox reads PDF and photographed statements and writes the same output formats.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no account, no email field, and no limit on how many files you convert.

The converter reads data files. LedgerBox reads the statement itself.

Upload a PDF or a photo of a statement and download the rows. No card required.
